Internationals: Lakenheath Alliance for Peace Newsheet no 7 December 2024

Hi dear LAP subscribers and friends,

Plans are taking shape!  Much effort is going into mobilising people for the Peace camp next April. A hall near Lakenheath has been booked for the International Peace Conference on April 24th. CNDUK is supporting LAP to blockade the base on Saturday April 26th. All this and more, see below…

LAP Peace camp 14 – 25th  APRIL 2025  A draft programme of events is on the website.  Workshops will be held throughout the camp – from clowning to singing to learning about drones to exploring other European campaign against US nukes to wellbeing. What workshop would you want or could you offer? Let us know. This is your camp so everything and everyone is welcome

LAP International Peace Conference  24th April  A day’s conference with well -informed speakers on topics from Global Militarism to the Arms Trade.  For anyone interested, local and global, look out for registration forms in the new year. Take a look at what is planned https://lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk/international-peace-conference/

LAP Big Blockade 26th April 12 noon.  Actions will be taking place during the camp, culminating with the first ever big blockade of Lakenheath on the last Saturday – the 26th April.  Be there, take part, on your own, with friends, as an affinity group. Be creative, do actions, street theatre, singing, or more spicy things….or just sit on a comfy settee. Get prepared beforehand.

Affinity group training   To take any non-violent action, big or small, it’s best to be prepared. An affinity group is a group agreeing to do an action together, and training helps with trust, what to do in tricky situations, how to stay calm etc.

Start by getting together with a few people you’d like to work with, and talk about what you’d like to do. Once you have your group, could be 3 or 4 of you, or more, find a date and a place and organise a training workshop in your area. Approach other people to join you, personal 1 – 1 usually works best, and find trainers – we can help with trainers if needed, email  info@lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk   This is much better done in advance of the camp although there will be general and specific nvda workshops at the camp.

Video training  opportunity  For you to train with Zoe, who made the excellent video of the last camp, so you can help with taking videos yourself at the next camp. Interested? Let us know soon so Zoe can organise info@lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk

Vigils   Monthly vigils have taken place on the last Saturday of every month. They have been organised by Norwich CND and Cambridge Stop the War, and always attract a lot of support from people driving pastThere is no vigil in December. The next vigil, from 12 – 2pm on 25th January 2025, is organised by Norwich Stop the War.  A coach will leave Norwich railway station at 10.30 and return by 3.30pm, book your seat by emailing lakenheathinfo@gmail.com      More details are here on facebook  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15rgghHxyN/

Finally  Our LAP website has more and more information as plans take shape, do take a look…     WHY are we mobilising around USAF Lakenheath? HOW can you get involved?   Are there LEAFLETS and posters?   What is the carbon footprint of nuclear weapons and war? And lots more.

Love and Peace, Ginnie and Angie
